Madurai: The Government is taking steps to get Presidential assent for the Bill abolishing Common Entrance Test (CET) for admission to professional courses passed in the Assembly last month.

Minister for School Education Thangam Thennarasu said here on Wednesday that there was no confusion and students seeking admission to engineering and medical colleges need not have to write any entrance test from this year.

"The Bill passed in the Assembly holds good. We are very clear on that and Presidential assent is being sought to get legal sanctity and protection," Mr. Thennarasu told reporters. He hoped the assent would come soon.

The Minister was here to inaugurate the 33rd Jawaharlal Nehru State-level Science Exhibition.

GO soon
Mr. Thennarasu said a Government Order reducing the pass mark in theory papers of science subjects in Plus-Two from 35 to 30 out of 150 marks would be issued shortly. The Directorate of School Education would intimate the decision to all education department officials in the districts.

On junk computers in government higher secondary schools and hardships faced by students and teachers on account of it, he said the School Education Department would shortly buy new computers for nearly 1,400 schools through the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu.
