AIEEE counselling from June 16
This year, candidates can also opt for dropout/unavailed seats
As per the tentative procedure evolved by the Central Counselling
Board, Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad,
AIEEE - 2008 Counselling would be held in two phases from June
16 to July 9.
Phase 1: Off-campus Online Counselling from
June 16 to June 24. candidates can exercise their choices from
any place of their convenience over the Internet by filling
up Form 1 Online. The duration of the phase 1 counselling has
been extended by three days this time. There will be indicative
allotment to make the candidates aware of the possibility of
getting a seat for his / her rank.
The new feature this time is that alongside filling up Form
1, candidates can optionally fill up Form 2 as well to be considered
for ‘dropout’ / ‘unavailed’ seats in
participating institutions. Only institutes will be allotted
against Form 2. The branches will be allotted later by the institutes
with due consideration of AIEEE merit among the students who
have joined there, according to the information circulated to
all NITs by the Central Counselling Board.
Phase 2: On-Campus Online Counselling from
June 30 to July 9. Eligible candidates will be required to report
to specific counselling centres in accordance with their State
of eligibility that would be known during Phase I. Counselling
for Bachelor of Architecture courses will be conducted on the
final day. The choices submitted through Form I in Phase II
will be processed centrally after completion of the counselling
at all 17 counselling centres every day.
After the first round of counselling, the second round of counselling
would be held for the remaining seats. Only those candidates
who had neither been allotted seats nor withdrawn will be allowed
to participate in the second round.
Tamil Nadu scenario
Besides the National Institute of Technology - Tiruchi where
672 seats are to be filled, there will be 30 seats to be filled
in Indian Institute of Information Technology Design and Manufacturing,
Kancheepuram, and 1,525 seats in three self-finance deemed universities:
SASTRA, Thanjavur (468), Sri Chandrasekharaendra Saraswathi
Viswa Mahavidyalaya, Kancheepuram (112) and MGR Educational
and Research Institute (945).
Owing to the decision to implement the 27 per cent OBC quota
reservation over two years, the number of seats at NIT-T has
gone up to 672 from last year’s 530. In Civil, Computer,
Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechanical and Production
Engineering, 16 more seats would be added up to 60 in each.
In Architecture branch, the capacity has been increased by 8.
In Chemical Engineering and Metallurgy, the number has gone
up to 51 from 40 in each. Last year, the preference of branches
at NIT-T were in the order of Electronics, Computer, Electrical,
Mechanical, Chemical, Instrumentation, Civil, Production and
Metallurgy, according to the Dean - Academic, NIT-T, P. Jeyabalan.
Over 8 lakh candidates appeared for AIEEE this year. The impact
of the increase in the number of candidates will be felt correspondingly
in Tamil Nadu also, according to T. Balasubramanian, former
Dean - Academic, NIT-T.
