As per the tentative procedure evolved by the Central Counselling Board, Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad, AIEEE - 2008 Counselling would be held in two phases from June 16 to July 9.

Phase 1: Off-campus Online Counselling from June 16 to June 24. candidates can exercise their choices from any place of their convenience over the Internet by filling up Form 1 Online. The duration of the phase 1 counselling has been extended by three days this time. There will be indicative allotment to make the candidates aware of the possibility of getting a seat for his / her rank.

The new feature this time is that alongside filling up Form 1, candidates can optionally fill up Form 2 as well to be considered for ‘dropout’ / ‘unavailed’ seats in participating institutions. Only institutes will be allotted against Form 2. The branches will be allotted later by the institutes with due consideration of AIEEE merit among the students who have joined there, according to the information circulated to all NITs by the Central Counselling Board.

Phase 2: On-Campus Online Counselling from June 30 to July 9. Eligible candidates will be required to report to specific counselling centres in accordance with their State of eligibility that would be known during Phase I. Counselling for Bachelor of Architecture courses will be conducted on the final day. The choices submitted through Form I in Phase II will be processed centrally after completion of the counselling at all 17 counselling centres every day.

After the first round of counselling, the second round of counselling would be held for the remaining seats. Only those candidates who had neither been allotted seats nor withdrawn will be allowed to participate in the second round.

Tamil Nadu scenario
Besides the National Institute of Technology - Tiruchi where 672 seats are to be filled, there will be 30 seats to be filled in Indian Institute of Information Technology Design and Manufacturing, Kancheepuram, and 1,525 seats in three self-finance deemed universities: SASTRA, Thanjavur (468), Sri Chandrasekharaendra Saraswathi Viswa Mahavidyalaya, Kancheepuram (112) and MGR Educational and Research Institute (945).

In Civil, Computer, Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechanical and Production Engineering, 16 more seats would be added up to 60 in each.
