Engg exam toppers prefer medicine
Chennai: Two of the three students who have topped the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions 2009 are planning to study
medicine, which shows the discipline is making a come back after several years.
TNEA third ranker Balaji, a student of Vidya Madir, Uthankarai, and a resident of Chennai, is keen on pursuing medicine and is now confident of getting the college and branch of his choice. "This year, TNEA application
forms were released even before the marks were out. Though I was fairly confident of my good performance, I decided to apply," he said. Now, he is eagerly waiting for the MBBS rank list to be released on Monday, a necessary wait on his way to fulfil his ambition of becoming a cardiologist.
The same is with Krithika, the second ranker and a resident of Mayiladuthurai.
Her father, a surgeon, is her inspiration to take up medicine. Both the students knew they would not top the rank list but were sure they would break into the top three.
Educationists remark the demand for medicine never subsided in the past years though there were only a few seats available in medicine.
They also say the toppers in the past preferred engineering mainly for higher salary, less years of study and the high cost involved in studying medicine in private colleges.
Meanwhile, the topper on the rank list is Aravind, a student of Akshaya Academy, Palani, who will saunter into Anna University, with a seat in a course of his choice. He has already decided to take Electronic and Communications Engineering branch in the College of Engineering, Anna University
