Over 500 engineering colleges will have same curriculum next year: V-C

Chennai: Over 500 engineering colleges in the State will have the same curriculum from the next academic year, said P. Mannar Jawahar, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University.

The State government has already notified the Tamil Nadu University Laws (Amendment and Repeal) Act, 2011, paving way for the merger of five Anna Universities of Technology (AUT) with Anna University (AU), Chennai after obtaining Governor's assent. Once the date from which the Act would come into force is notified, the Anna University would be the only affiliating technical university for all engineering colleges in the State.
The delay in realising these claims sometimes go up to one year causing a financial loss of Rs. 1lakh to a retiring teacher. Hence, in consonance with the government orders, the proposals for these claims must also be sent to the office of the Joint Director at least four months prior to retirement such that the benefits are paid at the time of retirement or before the expiry of re-employment, the memorandum said.

Mr. Pandiyan termed as “strange and audacious” the tendency of the Joint Director's Office, Tiruchi Region, to pass the buck on the Treasury Office for not paying the medical allowance of Rs.100 per month during the period of re-employment.
