Saveettha College of Physiotherapy, was started in 1993 to ease out the
Physiotherapist Scarcity in the country and to meet out the health
needs of the community. The college strives to bring upto date knowledge
to the students with high tech teaching methods and comprehensive
training of the students in the advancing physiotherapy skills.
College of Physiotherapy is affiliated to the Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical
University. Permission was granted by the Government of Tamil Nadu
in G.O. Ms. No.97 dated 29-1-93.
The campus is situated on Poonamallee High Road, at the commencement of the By-pass
road on Chennai-Bangalore National Highway No.4, in a calm and serene
atmosphere.
The various departments of the college have state-of-the-art physiotheraphy laboratories
equipped with full range of diagnostic and therapeutic equipment required
for diagnosis and treatment of various diseases.

Courses Offered:
B.P.T
At Present the 41/2 years B.P.T. course with 6 months internship is available
leading to the degree of Bachelor of Physiotherapy.
M.P.T.
To facilitate postgraduate education in Physiotherapy M.P.T. degree course of 2
years duration has been started from 1998-99.

The following departments of the college have state-of-the-art laboratories equipped
with full range of diagnostic equipment required for diagnosis of
various diseases.
Physiology and Biochemistry: Physiology and Biochemistry departments
are fully equipped to teach clinical and experimental Physiology and
Biochemistry as applicable to the clinical practice.
Pathology and Microbiology: Pathology and Microbiology departments are headed
by two separate professors with laboratory facilities to teach basic
Pathology and Microbiology with separate Histopathology Laboratory
and a Laboratory for doing necessary cultures for the Microbiology
department. These basic departments will also help the general hospital
to carry out the investigation for the patients.
Anatomy: Since the college is included in the Anatomy Act of the Government
of Tamil Nadu, adequate cadavers are available to teach Anatomy to
the students.
Hostel: The Hostel, which is located within the campus, is designed to accommodate
Nursing students. The rooms are spacious well ventilated and provided
with comfortable furniture. The mess is provided with modern kitchen
equipments and hygienic steam cooking ranges. A 15 kva generator is
available as standby for the hostel separately.
Library: A large centrally air conditioned, well-stocked library is located
on the ground floor. Apart from modern occupational books and journals,
modern gadgets like computers, Internet facilities are available.
A seminar hall with state-of-the-art audiovisual equipments provides
an ideal environment for the students to study. Digital / LCD projectors
are also available to provide live demonstrations of surgery and other
procedures with two-way communications. Apart from books for the under
graduates a large number of reference books are stocked for the staff
and Post Graduate students. For those who would require reprints a
photocopier and duplicating machine are available. The library is
kept open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Amenities: The college has 4 buses plying to and from the city
on three routes to the College, providing transport facilities to
the staff and students. Students are permitted to avail the bus on
payment. Separate common room, with lockers, will be provided for
each student. Cafeteria would be kept open for staff, students and
visitors to the College and Hospitals. A 110 kva generator is available
to cater to the requirements of the hospital in case of power failure.
Other facilities like Bank, Store, Pharmacy and gymnasium are available
for the benefit of the students and public.
General Hospital : A General Hospital with 100 beds was established for
teaching Internal Medicine and General Surgery for the students and
also for the welfare of the patients.
On an average 100 cases are treated as out-patients in various specialities,
free of cost. The hospital stoppages, consultant charges and theatre
charges are totally waived for inpatient.
The General Hospital Complex has various departments such as General Medicine,
General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Pediatrics, Orthopaedics
and facilities for Biochemical, Microbiological, Histopathological
and Radiological investigations.
It also houses a well-stocked Pharmacy, Cafeteria and Dietary department.
The Hospital has a 24 hours Casualty Department, well-equipped Resuscitation
Room, three major Operation Theatres, one minor Theatre, a Labour
Room and an Intensive Care Unit. It also has highly qualified and
Senior Consultants in various specialities.

This department plays a vital role for the job placement services for all
the courses under various Government organisations and corporate bodies.
Personality Development programmes are being undertaken for the benefit
of the students.
